A N N A B A X T E R
A native of Oklahoma, USA, lyric soprano Anna Baxter began her music education as a child learning piano, clarinet and oboe. She has studied at the University of Tulsa, Southern Methodist University and Baylor University, where she earned her Master’s Degree of Music in vocal performance. International acclaimed artists she has studied with include KS Olivera Miljakovic and KS Wicus Slabbert in Vienna. Baxter claimed a prize at the 2007 International Singing Competition of Passau. Other awards include 1st Prize of the Naftzger Young Artists Competition in Kansas in 1999 and the Olsen Memorial Scholarship Competition in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1997 and 1998. Before she moved to Vienna, where she found her new home, she had taken part in productions in the US with the Forth Worth Opera, Tulsa Opera, and Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Tulsa. Her European debut in 2006 as Violetta in La Traviata was highly acclaimed by audience and critics alike. She has also given concerts and recitals in the USA, Europe and Asia. She has sung with orchestras such as the Zagreb Philharmonic, Philharmonic Orchestra of the Hansestadt Lübeck, the Sherman Symphony, and the Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra. Since the 2008/09 season Baxter has appeared regularly as a soloist at Theater Lübeck in Germany, where she has sung major roles such as Marie (The Bartered Bride), Zdenka (Arabella), Liu (Turandot), Saffi (The Gipsy Baron) and Freia(Das Rheingold.)
